I'm Duncan, the founder and director of Ute Home. In 2024 we started developing the Yōso Cup. I have been a physical product designer since 2013 & launched my own design consulting business in 2021. My partner & I had been looking for an interesting product to launch a Homeware business with for several years. After having our first child, we found an unexpected inspiration when our toddler repeatedly targeted our ceramic mugs & broke several of them. We wondered whether we could combine our love of enamelware and minimal homeware to make a mug that was more robust than ceramics but similarly hygienic, & more aesthetic, useable & space saving than conventional enamelware mugs.
Any product we initially released had to be physically small & not require excessive assembly time or electronics so that storing and selling the products could be done in parallel to running my design business. Not only that, it had to be genuinely useful, different enough to stand out on the market & encapsulate Ute Home’s brand identity as our flagship product.
That was two years ago. It has been a long journey, full of ups and downs. Between juggling my micro-consultancy, a growing family & product development little by little my partner and I made it happen.
This is the beginning. Let’s hope it works.
